How It Works
Jeuveau contains a type of botulinum toxin that has been safely used for decades for those who wish to reduce the visible signs of aging. It is particularly useful for what are known as “dynamic wrinkles.” These are deep folds and wrinkles caused by the contractions of facial muscles.
Jeuveau works by blocking transmissions between the nerves and and treated muscles.
This limits the activity of the injected muscles so that they cannot create some types of wrinkles on the surface of the skin.
What It Treats
One of the most popular areas of treatment for Jeuveau is frown lines. Two clinical trials of Jeuveau found that 67% and 71% of people experienced significant improvement after treatment, compared to only 1% in the placebo groups.
Jeuveau Alternatives
If you have lighter facial lines and wrinkles, you should also consider facial fillers. Most of these products contain something called hyaluronic acid, which improves skin hydration and volume to help smooth away fine lines and wrinkles.
To determine which product makes the most sense for you and your unique needs, schedule a consultation with your Jeuveau provider. They can examine your skin and learn of your treatment goals to recommend the most appropriate treatment.
Product Safety
Jeuveau was approved by the FDA in 2019 for the treatment of some types of wrinkles. Both the product itself and the company that manufactures it have an excellent track record of safety. After injection, Jeuveau stays where it is injected, rather than traveling systemically throughout the body.
How is Jeuveau different from Botox?
Although there are definitely many similarities between Jeuveau and Botox, there are also some key differences that make Jeuveau stand out from other types of botulinum toxin injections.
For one, Jeuveau is more appropriate for treating some forms of facial wrinkles, particularly those found on the forehead. It is also available at a somewhat less expensive price than Botox, making it more appealing for those who wish to save some money.
Jeuveau Cost
In general, the cost of a Jeuveau treatment ranges from $400 to $600. The exact amount that your individual Jeuveau treatment will cost depends upon factors like the number of injection sites, the amount of product used, your geographic area, and your individual provider.
To learn how much Jeuveau will specifically cost you, contact your nearest provider to schedule a consultation.
Jeuveau Procedure
Your provider will begin by removing any makeup or dead skin cell debris around the area that will be treated. They will then inject the Jeuveau product into several sites, depending upon your treatment goals.
The entire process is over very quickly, normally taking no more than 15 minutes. After your injections are administered, you are completely free to leave with no downtime whatsoever to be expected.
As the injected Jeuveau takes hold, underlying facial muscles will begin relaxing and creating a smoother look around your facial lines. The results will continue to build over the next few days, culminating in full results in about one week.
Recovery Time
Since treatment with Jeuveau is minimally invasive, it involves no downtime at all. So you can return to your normal activities immediately after your injections. Some people even call Jeuveau treatments “lunchtime facelifts.”
If you should experience any swelling or bruising, you can apply a cold compress to the area.
For four hours after your Jeuveau injections, avoid lying down directly on the site of injections. Do not massage or vigorously rub the area of treatment. You should also avoid any activities that could cause skin flushing, such as exercising, sitting in a hot tub, or drinking alcohol.
Jeuveau Results
Although you may notice some initial improvement, the results of your Jeuveau injections will continue to build over the next few days after your treatment.
The effects of Jeuveau injections will naturally begin tapering off with time, as your body metabolizes the injected product. At around three months, you will need another treatment session to maintain your wrinkle reduction results.
