Skin conditions like lines and wrinkles, folds and creases, and dry skin, can really take a toll on your face. Although aging is a natural and inevitable part of life, why rush things? Whether you’re trying to prevent premature wrinkles, or deal with those you already have, you should consider getting a facial filler treatment like Juvederm.
Juvederm is actually a complete line of products that address different parts of the face, depending upon your individual needs and treatment goals.

What is Juvederm?
Juvederm is the brand name for a family of hyaluronic acid fillers, which vary in thickness and elasticity, as well as application. The thicker products add definition to places like the jawline and cheekbones, while the thinner ones hydrate the skin, making them effective for the lips and the area under the eyes.
Because hyaluronic acid is a natural substance metabolized by the body, it has a very low rate of side effects. Results are also long-lasting, ranging anywhere from six to 18 months, depending upon the particular product used.
What It Treats
- Lines and wrinkles
- Nasolabial folds
- Crow’s feet
- Thin or wrinkled lips
Juvederm Family of Products
No matter what part of your face could use some hydrating or plumping, Juvederm covers all the bases.
- Volbella XC: Augments the lips.
- Vollure XC: Treats moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles, like nasolabial folds.
- Voluma XC: Treats the cheeks and chin. Adds volume and augments the chin area.
How It Works
The main ingredient in Juvederm is something called hyaluronic acid – a naturally occurring substance produced by your own body. It is found in the soft tissues of the body, including the skin. Hyaluronic acid’s role is attracting moisture into skin cells. Think of hyaluronic acid as a sort of internal moisturizer.
Unfortunately, the aging process really degrades hyaluronic acid over time, making it less efficient in its purpose of hydrating your skin. Like a dry, cracked riverbed, your skin will eventually dry out and develop the “cracks” that we call wrinkles.
Juvederm works by restoring levels of hyaluronic acid in your skin, making the drying process move in reverse. It will immediately begin drawing moisture into your skin, hydrating and volumizing to help smooth away fine lines and wrinkles, as well as minimize skin creases and folds.
Juvederm Procedure
In contrast to plastic surgery procedures, Juvederm treatments are fairly quick, normally taking anywhere from 30 minutes to one hour. This is a minimally invasive treatment that involves little to no downtime. Even better, your results will be immediate and continue building over the following days and weeks, as your skin drinks in moisture and starts filling in lines and wrinkles.
Your face should be clean, including makeup, before your treatment. Your provider will administer a topical numbing agent to ensure your comfort. After it has taken effect, they will remove the numbing cream, and clean the area with an antibiotic ointment.
Treatment with Juvederm normally takes around 20 minutes per syringe. So the total length of your procedure will depend upon how many different areas that you need treated during a given treatment session.
Juvederm Recovery Timeline
Recovering from a Juvederm treatment is pretty simple and straightforward, as this is a minimally invasive treatment that requires no incisions or downtime.
First 24 Hours
Avoid exercise and using ibuprofen for the first day or two.
You should notice some immediately visible results after your injections, although things will get better and better over the next two weeks, as the product settles into your skin.
Day Two
Don’t be surprised if your skin and lips swell somewhat in the first 48 hours after your Juvederm procedure. This can normally be treated by icing the area as soon as you receive the injections.
Two Weeks
If you received a lip filler, it is not unusual for your lips to feel (but not appear) a bit bumpy for the first two weeks, after which the product should have fully integrated with your skin.
Final Notes
It is important to realize that any discomfort that you may experience after Juvèderm injections is caused by the mechanical act of injecting the product. You should not experience any pain after your Juvèderm treatment. You may notice some minor bruising, but it should never involve pain. If you do experience any pain, notify your provider right away, as this could indicate a complication.
