Types of Lip Augmentation
- Hyaluronic acid fillers
- Collagen fillers
- Tissue grafting
- Lip implants
The most popular form of lip augmentation is injectable fillers. This is a fast and convenient treatment that can be performed in as little as 15 minutes.
Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found within the soft tissues of the human body. It has an almost magical ability to attract a tremendous amount of moisture into soft tissues like the skin and lips. These fillers offer some immediate results, but provide optimal fullness in three or four days, as the injected hyaluronic acid gradually draws moisture into the lips for a more pronounced pout.
Two popular hyaluronic acid lip fillers:
- Juvederm
Juvederm is the most popular type of filler available today. It can add volume to your lips and provide very smooth and predictable results that are both natural-looking and flattering.
- Restylane
Another excellent lip filler that can add improved contours and structure to the lips. This is particularly important for anyone lacking definition in their lips, which makes the lips appear unpleasantly thin.
Juvederm and Restylane can be reversed if you don’t like your results. If you do like what you’re seeing after your lip filler injections, you can expect your results to last for around eight months, depending upon the specific product that you were treated with.
Another great thing about hyaluronic acid fillers is that they offer very natural results when performed by an expert practitioner. This is because your body already produces hyaluronic acid; you’re just adding more of it into the equation. So if your thin lips were caused by aging, it will just be like turning back the clock to a younger version of yourself.
Collagen Fillers
Although they are not as popular as they once were, collagen fillers are still available to increase the attractiveness of the lips by adding additional volume. After injection, the collagen is massaged into place, providing immediate results.
Collagen is known for offering longer-lasting results than hyaluronic acid, although hyaluronic acid fillers are generally thought to offer more natural-looking results.
Tissue Grafting
This type of filler involves grafting a piece of your skin, typically from the lower abdomen. After the extraction of the skin, your practitioner will roll it up like a cigar and insert it into your lips.
Tissue grafting lip fillers can take up to 90 minutes to complete. They are delivered under local anesthesia and last up to five years or more.
Lip Implants
Lip implants are made from silicone and inserted through two tiny lip incisions. These implants were created for providing perfectly shaped lips that maintain both their shape and beauty.
Lip Augmentation Cost
The cost of your individual lip augmentation will vary, depending upon what technique is used, your geographic location, and your individual practitioner.
You can learn the cost of your lip augmentation by scheduling a consultation with your chosen practitioner.
Lip Augmentation Recovery Timeline
Lip augmentation is a simple cosmetic treatment that can be performed very quickly, involving little to no downtime. The mechanical process of delivering the injections can result in some minor redness, swelling, and irritation for a short period of time.
First 24 Hours
It is normal to experience some minor skin redness, swelling, and discomfort at the site of the injections. If you are uncomfortable, applying a cold compress to the area should be enough to relieve your discomfort.
First Two Days
You may notice some temporary numbness and swelling for the first day or two. Continue using a cold compress until your swelling has gone down. Any numbness should mostly resolve itself within the first two days.
First Two Weeks
You can began using lipstick again in about a week after your lip augmentation procedure.
If you are experiencing any lingering numbness or discomfort by the end of the two-week period, contact your provider.
